Fotona dental lasers provide the widest range of hard tissue drilling options available on the market. With our latest LightWalker system, ablation parameters can be set according to the type as well as the condition of a patient’s hard tissue (carious/healthy). The Er:YAG laser delivered through the LightWalker’s articulated arm is more powerful than any other available dental laser: it cuts up to 3 times faster through dentin and 4.2 times faster through enamel than any laser delivered through optical fiber.

TouchWhite™ Laser-Assisted Tooth Whitening

The TouchWhite™ patent-pending tooth whitening method makes use of the fact that the Er:YAG laser wavelength has an absorption peak in water, which is the major component of aqueous bleaching gels. All of the laser energy is thus effectively used for the heating of the gel. This eliminates the need for more complex (and potentially toxic) bleaching gels with special light-absorbing particles.

More importantly, when taking thermal burden considerations into account, the TouchWhite™ procedure represents the most effective and least invasive laser-assisted tooth whitening method possible. Due to its high absorption in bleaching gels, the Er:YAG laser beam is fully absorbed in the gel and does not penetrate to the hard tissue or the pulp. There is no direct heating of the dental tissue and the pulp, as is the case with other laser-assisted whitening methods. There is also no risk of accidentally damaging the hard dental tissue, as the laser fluence of every laser pulse is set to be significantly below the ablation threshold for dental tissues.

As a consequence, the procedure can be performed with a minimal thermal burden on the teeth, and the whitening speed can be safely increased by 5 - 10 times.
